Custom Video Pod is HERE!
January 7th, 2008 under Uncategorized. [ Comments: none ]

Thanks to our fearless leader, David Hassoun, we’ve been able to create and deliver the custom video pod to a large CBT organization on the east coast.

The RealEyes custom video pod allows a room Host or Presenter to have their own video stream in addition to the video pod that ships with Connect. Here’s a screen shot

Presenter Area (Off-Stage) Really Means “Presenter Area”
December 10th, 2007 under Uncategorized. [ Comments: none ]

After you work with a product for a while, it becomes harder and harder to find new features and functions. Here’s one that is quite cool.

The other day, I needed to record a simple demonstration using Acrobat Connect Professional. I needed so show how to navigate the web manager and do a couple very specific things. Because I wanted to use Full Pod mode for the screen sharing, I decided to move my camera and VoIP pod to off-stage. Essentially I wanted to capture my narration for the recording, but have only the share pod visible.

To my amazement, my voice was not captured on the recording playback! I could see the green audio bar moving while I was recording, but nothing on the play-back.

So, quite curious about all this, I kept the camera and VoIP “on-stage” an the audio did come through (which I expected).

Moral of the story, if you’re going to capture audio with VoIP, you’ll need to keep the camera and VoIP pod on-stage. I have not checked this vs. room rights and authentication yet. Since recordings playback Participant view only, I have a feeling room rights won’t make a difference with this one.

More posts soon, promise!

Remote Control Nuance
September 21st, 2007 under Uncategorized. [ Comments: none ]

So Jorma Jennings on the RealEyes training team ran into somethingcool with Connect and screen sharing/remote control. Upon helping a client of ours via remote control of her desktop, he was having an issue with mouse clicks. Every time he clicked his “left” click on his mouse, the “right” click menu came-up. As it turns-out, the client had a left hand mouse configuration, and apparently, governed the click rules for Jorma having taken control.

So, if you must take control of the users machine and you see this issue, try your “right” click, because that’s the user’s “left” click.

Don’t Like the Camera & VoIP Pod?
August 9th, 2007 under Uncategorized. [ Comments: none ]

A question was sent to me today about disabling the Camera/VoIP Pod for Connect users. While there is no way to remove this pod from the menu structure for either a Hosted or Licensed installation, here’s a pretty good workaround.

Create a meeting and layout the pods exactly how you want them for your users
Move the meeting you just created to the “Templates” folder, name it
Create the user meeting room according to this template
When setting permissions for the user, do not make them a Host, but a Presenter
When the user logs into the room, they will not have access to the Pod Menu, as Hosts do.

Of course users may have need to be meeting room Hosts from time to time, at which point you could log in as Host and support them.

Are you Animated in Your Web Conference Meetings?
June 7th, 2007 under Uncategorized. [ Comments: none ]

As most of you know, Adobe Connect Professional will convert PPT files to Flash (.swf) to be presented in a room. This is a great thing as the alternative is screen sharing, a heavy bandwidth user. Some other platforms, namely WebEx, convert PPT files to .jpg, but then slide animation is lost. Soooooo, what animations in MS PowerPoint are supported once the slide deck is converted to .swf by Connect?

Excellent Adobe Connect Examples
May 22nd, 2007 under Uncategorized. [ Comments: none ]

On a weekly basis I get asked for some example content from Adobe Connect. Most of the time folks want to see what can be done with Adobe Presenter and the ability to author eLearning content. Other times, people want to see the meeting recording playback.

Below are some of the best examples I’ve been able to put together. As always, I will update this blog as I get new goodies!

Adobe Presenter & Large File To Publish - .zip it up!
May 16th, 2007 under Uncategorized. [ Comments: none ]

If you have a large Adobe Presentation to upload to a Connect Server from PowerPoint you may get an error if it’s too large. I recently had a client try to publish a a 24MB.PPT file and 200MB .PPC (audio) file. After a few minutes, she received an error that was not enough space on the Connect Server. Truth was, they have a licensed installation with well over 300GB+.

The workaround I recommend is:

- select Publish in the Adobe Presenter drop-down menu in PPT
- select “My computer”
- check the “zip the presentation” box on the bottom right
- login to the Connect Manager
- upload the .zip file to the content library, follow the steps.

The nice part is that Connect Server will extract the zipfile and run the Presentation as if you published it from PPT.
